What Are The Best Jars For Pickling?

Humans have been pickling food for around 4,000 years, going all the way back to the days of Mesopotamia. What started as a way of preserving perishable fruits and vegetables so that they last longer has developed into something we do to intensify the flavour of food and reap its health benefits even more. In theory, any food can be pickled but it’s most commonly used for fruit, vegetables, herbs, spices and some meats. However, there are some important considerations to take into account to ensure all your hard work doesn’t go to waste and you’re left with a delicious end product. Right at the top of this list is the decision of which jars to use for pickling. There are many different options available and depending on what it is you are preserving (or even fermenting) the best jar to use will be different. So, here are a few recommendations taken from our experience in the bottle and jar industry. Why Glass Jars Are Perfect Pickling Paraphernalia For seasoned picklers, it may go without saying that glass jars are the best choice, but it’s worth noting this if you’re newer to the practice of pickling. How To Measure Jam Jar Lids Correctly

The Bottle Jar Store is a one-stop-shop for a great variety of jars in all shapes and sizes. However, we also sell closures that you can either purchase alongside your glass jars or separately in quantities from one all the way up to thousands. When it comes to jam jar lids, it can be tricky (and sometimes frustrating) to work out the exact size you need. There is a range of considerations needed to ensure the lid fits perfectly, and the last thing you want is a pile of closures that don’t effectively secure the contents of your jar. Don’t worry, though, we’re here to guide you through measuring your jam jar lids correctly. Continuous Thread (CT) Vs Lug (Twist-Off) There are two main types of jar (and therefore jar lids) which are not interchangeable, so it’s important you know which is which. Continuous thread is typically used for mason jars, spice jars or even medication. However, those used in the last example are also adapted so that they need to be pushed down as well as twisted when opened. One of the easiest ways to tell if a lid is for a continuous thread jar [...]

Lets make Limoncello!

Simple Limoncello Recipe Ingredients: 10 organic lemons 1 litre of vodka 3 cups of granulated sugar 4 cups of water Instructions: Prepare the Lemons: Wash the lemons thoroughly. Use a vegetable peeler to remove the lemon peels, avoiding the white pith as it can make the limoncello bitter. Infuse the Vodka: Place the lemon peels in a large glass jar. Pour the vodka over the peels, ensuring they are completely submerged. Seal the jar tightly and let it sit at room temperature for at least 7 days (up to 30 days for a stronger lemon flavour). Shake the jar gently every few days. Make the Simple Syrup: Combine the sugar and water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is completely dissolved, then remove from heat and let the syrup cool to room temperature. Combine and Strain: Once the lemon infusion period is complete, strain the lemon peels from the vodka using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth. Mix the lemon-infused vodka with the simple syrup. Stir well to combine. Bottle and Store: Choose the right bottle for your product, the serenade has a sleek modern design, available in 50ml/200ml/500ml/700ml making it perfect for all occasions, be that [...]

Marmalade Season 2024!

People have been making marmalade with oranges for centuries. And in all that time, not much has changed in the marmalade recipe. The Romans were some of the first people to make what we’d call marmalade today, with one recipe noted down in the first century. But it wasn’t until the 18th century that the orange marmalade recipe was fixed in its most familiar form. English cookbooks of this period are the first to mention the familiar ‘jelly’ that’s a central part of modern marmalade. From here, it wasn’t long until orange marmalade became the staple of the breakfast table that it is today. How to Make Marmalade Making marmalade with oranges requires very few ingredients and even less equipment. For this recipe you’ll want to have these ingredients to hand: 1kg of Oranges Juice from 2 Lemons 2kg of granulated sugar Firstly place the oranges and the lemon juice into a pan. Fill the pan with 2 litres of water, ensuring the oranges are fully submerged. Now bring the pan to boil, and leave it covered and simmering for a couple of hours. If you can easily pierce the orange peel with a fork, that’s a sign they’re ready. [...]
